Margaret has held the seat of McPherson over four elections – 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2007.
Queensland has recently undergone its second redistribution in two consecutive election cycles. With the most recent redistribution, the Electorate has gained 2,000 residents who live on the north of Christine Avenue up to Mountain View Drive.
The Electorate of McPherson is named after the McPherson Range which forms the south-western boundary of the division. The range was named by Allan Cunningham after Major McPherson in 1828.
- It covers an area of approximately 369 sq km from the New South Wales border in the south to Christine Avenue, and Mudgeeraba in the north, and west to Springbrook.
- It takes in the major part of the tourist strip of the Gold Coast from Coolangatta on the New South Wales border through Currumbin, Palm Beach and Burleigh Heads in the north. It also includes the hinterland areas of Mudgeeraba and Springbrook.
